Here is a brief story: Me and Anicka really wanted to visit Scotland or Ireland for a few days, we were checking the prices of flight tickets and after they suddenly raised the prices we changed our minds and decided to fly to Italy, which is nearly the same.
We bought the flight to Treviso, which is close to Venice and not that far from the mountains, so the 2 main goals of the 3-day trip were clear. Following Davide's recommendations, we chose Calalzo di Cadore as our starting point for hiking in Dolomites. We brought our own tent to make it traditional Czech low cost travel.
Maps of the area.

We travelled early morning after farewell party with Evca and Sylva, which resulted in little complication (first of many) with waking Anicka up:) But after several runs to catch the buses we managed to catch our flight from Nyköping as well.
Relax in Nyköping non-salty sea port before the flight.

Second complication came with the weight limit for luggage - 15kg allowed, me 21kg, Ani 14kg. After reorganization of our stuff me 15kg, Ani 19kg. After another reorganization me and Anna 15kg + 2 pieces of hand luggage (sleeping matress and cover for sleeping matress filled with everything) + lots of food to eat and 2l of Yoggies to drink before the flight:).

We are in Italy! First fact about Italy: Trains are always late!

First morning in Calalzo di Cadore - this was the best weather we saw.

Second fact about Italy: Offices are closed during open hours.

Calalzo di Cadore.

We started out hike from Calalzo di Cadore (806m above the sea level) The original plan was to walk up the mountains to get a nice view of the lake in Calalzo, this plan failed as the lake remained hidden behind the mountains.

True Dolomites hikers.

After the first rain shower.

Pictures from the first Rifugio (chalet). Find 1 difference. Rain stayed with us for the rest of the day.. But even though in the fog our trail looked like the one in the forests nearby Brno, we enjoyed it!

After waiting for the rain to weaken at least a bit, we realized it's not gonna happen that day so we left our backpacks at the Rifugio (we met a local tractorist there who offered to guide them) and went to see the great local Niagara falls.

10-second self-timer was nearly not enough!

Next, we took our stuff and continued walking up the huge hill through the Brno forest.

Our goal - Rifugio Galassi - is already close! And we found our trail sign again:)

Hard climb ahead.

We are there! Nearly the highest point of our hike (2018m).

'Yeah, we managed to escape the clouds!' / No, they were faster..

Fantastic panorama of Dolomites!!

For the rest of our way towards St. Vito village it was raining cats and dogs most of the time plus it was foggy, so we don't have any good pictures.. But thanks to our orientation skills and a great tourist map, we safely followed the red trail to St. Vito even in the fog:).

Day 2
The next morning we took the bus from St. Vito to Calalzo and then the train to Venice!
Bye bye St. Vito. / Great bus stop.

From the bus: This is the great clear-blue Calalzo lake we came to see:)

From the train - leaving Dolomites.

2nd part of the article will cover our Venice experience..
